April 15th, 2019 - Medusa

Dear TNY,

I read “Medusa”.

Here’s the truth.  I cannot separate the incident that occurs in this story from the quality of story. Therefore I cannot pick this story apart, good or bad. I’m sorry.  There are some stories that are over that line, for me, with regard to being something I can critique hard.  Few, but some.  In this case, this story was told well enough that I didn’t get angry. And I cannot even begin to understand the objective logistics of this scenario nor can I speak to the realism of the mindset of the main character after it occurred.  And I don’t want to speak to these things.  I have no authority here and I don’t want anyone to believe that I pretend to.

What I can say is that the story is told well enough that I was not completely thrown out by some totally inaccurate detail.

What I can also say is that the ending sentence seemed like a stretch and was too writerly.

Other than that, I’m taking a step back from this because I recognize that I’m not qualified to question it.
